Carry On Luggage Restriction Varies From Airline To Airline
For passengers flying within the United States, the FAA has limited passengers to one carry on piece as well as one personal item that may include purses, briefcases, laptops as well as small backpacks. The carry on luggage restrictions also allow passengers to take one carry-on as well as one personal item that can be brought on board the aircraft and a coat, reading material as well as a small bag of food and devices like wheelchairs and walkers are other permissible items.
Check Individual Restrictions Beforehand
It is wise to check the carry on luggage restrictions of each individual airline before embarking on a journey, though in the case of domestic airlines, a carry on item of luggage not exceeding forty-five linear inches is permitted and maximum weight limit may be forty pounds. International airlines have their own individual carry on luggage restrictions and it is best to be advised by to ascertain their exact dos and don'ts.
With a greater looming threat of terrorists using laxity in enforcing carry on luggage restrictions, most airlines (if not all) are enforcing size as well as weight limits much more strictly now than in the past. Towards this end, it is not uncommon for airlines to use bag sizers at their gates to check that bags do not exceed the limits of weight and size. For carry on bags that exceed the limits, the passenger needs to check them in and such items are classified as "extra bags" which incur an extra charge.
At present, airline carry on luggage restrictions have caused passengers to considerably change their ability to carry on like they were used to in the past. Many rules are meant to ensure the safety of passengers. but often the dimensions quoted by airline officials over the phone may be at variance with those of the sizing cubes at the airport. Some permissible carry on luggage items allowed by airlines include electronic equipment such as cell phones, portable music player as well as laptops.
Other small items permitted include nail clippers and non-metallic nail files, disposable razors, razor blade cartridges as well as syringes and needles required for personal medical use. Also permitted are walking canes and umbrellas. Items that fall in the non-permissible category of carry on luggage restrictions include all knives, any sharp and/or pointed objects, replica or toy weapons, fireworks, corkscrews, sporting equipment such as golf clubs and hockey sticks and more.
In addition, individual airlines also have the right to restrict items that they deem to be a security risk. To make travel simpler and more convenient, the passenger is advised to pack items that will not be required during the flight.
