Think of Cancun and you visualize brilliant shades of blue waters gently breezing onto fine white sands. But there is so much more to Cancun. The natural parks are bursting with activities, events, and cultural explorations. While in Cancun, be sure to visit one or two of these parks to make your vacation complete.

Tulam and Xel-Ha
Tulam, once a Mayan port in ancient civilization, still shines with the Mayan culture. A large Mayan temple called "El Castillo" guards over the ocean. Visitors will be in awe over the picturesque points of Tulam. There are many archeological sites to explore. The views take you on top of cliffs looking down on the sea.
Xel-Ha is in the same neighborhood as Tulam, in the Riviera Maya, and is your stop after Tulam. Snorkeling and swimming are the key focus in Xel-Ha. Miles of mangroves exist for tubing or floating. Xel-Ha has an enormously long floating bridge inside its waters.

Sian Ka'an
Get ready for a jungle adventure in Cancun to one of the biggest natural reserves in Mexico. Backpacking to the jungle's top lookout tower is available. A boat expedition heads down the water canals of the reserve to the Mayan ruins. It is here you can explore the rich history of the ancient Mayan culture. There is also snorkeling available into the underground caves and cenotes. The shallow surface waters will show mineral formations centuries old. Hundreds of birds call this area home. At any time a parrot could rest upon your shoulder.

Rio Lagartos
If you love pink Flamingos, then you can see thousands of these distinctive birds at this wildlife refuge in Cancun. From April to August Flamingos build mud nests on the shallow shoreline. This park was built in 1979 and contains over118,000 acres of natural preserves. It is home to jaguars, turtles, and 200 species of birds. There is an eco diverse environment which includes coastline, jungle and swamps.

Garrafon National Reef Park
When the boat cruise takes you out to Isle Mujeres, take some time to wander through Garrafon. On the Isle Mujeres there is much to see and do. A Mayan temple exists down from Blue eye caves. There is a panoramic tower and a climbing bridge. This visit also includes talking parrots, and glass bottom kayaks. Snuba diving and bungee jumping are part of the activities happening at Garrafon. Turtle farms and swimming with dolphins give you a first hand look at Cancun's marine habitats.

Aktun Chen
Check out this natural park with 5 million old caves. The underground caves have rivers running through them. The outside of the caves is home to monkeys, wild boar, deer, and many more animals living unconfined in the jungle environment. This park also has a large snake observatory which includes 15 different species of native snakes. You will love listening to the monkey's howl as you leave the caves. Nature trails exist through the 988 acres to take you all through this riveting natural reserve.
