A cruise: It's not just a vacation anymore. With the cruise industry booming in recent years, people are finding more reasons than ever to hop on a boat and enjoy a luxury sail for a few days or even weeks. Here are a few occasions where celebrating with a cruise can be a fantastic idea.

Honeymoons. This one is obvious. What better way to signify the start of a whole new life than literally getting away from it all for awhile? On a honeymoon cruise, the newlyweds can sail away from home and travel the seas, all while settled in a cozy room. There are no hassles of constant packing and unpacking, waiting in airports, or worrying about reservations. It's a load of fun surrounded by new people, and there are hundreds of romantic things to do once on board. For the ultimate in privacy and symbolism, sailing away into the sunset might be the perfect idea for that most important of all vacations.

Retirement. More and more golden-agers are using some of their hard-earned savings to take themselves away from shore for awhile and relax on a luxury cruise. There are activities on board geared towards seniors, including great dinners, gambling, and evening shows; and the hassle-free aspect of a cruise is ideal for those with less mobility. Once passengers are on the boat, the driving is handled by someone else, and the destinations come to them! It's also a great way for retiring couples to reconnect with each other, or for older people to meet other older people on board and make new friends. It just might be the ideal vacation for retirees.

Kids' Parties. Yes, that's right, we said kids' parties. With the huge increases in cruise vacations in the past several years, the cruise industry has gotten smart and geared themselves towards kids and families. Many cruise ships offer family-friendly deals and packages, where traveling with the little ones means traveling for less, and there are activities on board for kids ranging from museum-style exhibits to live action plays. Babysitters are provided on some cruise lines, which can be ideal when the parents need a night away, and discount rates are often offered if you book a party in advance. Why not celebrate your child's birthday by inviting his or her friends on a day-long cruise, complete with a clown party or a roller-skating derby? It'll be a birthday to remember for years to come.

In a world that is moving faster and becoming more driven than ever before, the growth of the cruise industry is hardly surprising. People love the idea of being able to float out to sea for awhile and have everything they need for weeks of entertainment right on board with them. As cruise ships become ever more popular, and as more people finally sign up to take those dream vacations, we're discovering new reasons to celebrate. And that's a very good thing.
